Usually, SEO services when optimizing Local Keywords, rely on the following to rank the local keywords:-

  2. Reciprocal Links
  3. Submission Backlinks
  4. Google Map Optimisation
  5. Local Business Listings
Now lets look at the following keyword:- Hotels Chelthenham. Targeted Search Engine – Google.co.uk. When going through the backlink profile of the competitor websites, we found out that atleast 40% websites had links coming from local websites and portals. By Local Websites I mean backlinks from websites which belong to businesses in Chelthenham. Rest of the websites were relying on the UK links from other Hotel Sites and domain age. After segregating these two websites, we found out that the websites backlinked by Cheltenham websites were ranking above the other sect of websites.  The number of backlinks had no weight here but the relevance and most importantly origin of the backlinking sites.

Cheap Directory Submissions & Article Submissions – Doing Your SEO Any Good?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Can Directory Submissions and Article Submissions be a substitute for One Way Link Building from relevant sites?

If you are not sure about the answer to above question, this post is going to give you an insight about how directionless, low quality directory submissions and article submissions outsourcing is killing your / your client’s SEO aspirations. Cheap Directory Submissions and Cheap Article Submissions are your biggest mistake. I will take up both Directory Submissions and Article Submissions separately in this post.
Understanding Directory Submission & Its Importance
We are all aware of Dmoz – its Internet’s most famous and widely accessed Open Directory Project. The modern day Google Crawler, has started crawling web at a faster pace. While crawling through different sites, Google’s crawler is able to identify the theme of a site, based on the content, outgoing links and neighbourhood links. Now, when you get SEO directory submissions done for your website, you are doing nothing but telling Google that your website belongs to a certain theme. By directory submission of a website under relevant theme, the submitted website is listed under a specific theme of the directory and when the same work is carried out to more than 100 directory websites per month, your website acquires a degree of relevance for the selected theme.
Importance Of Directory Links In SEO
In my opinion, Directory Submissions For SEO, have negligible importance when considering the backlink weightage. Why? Because, when a Directory Submitter visits a directory and submits your website. Based on approval time, once your website is approved, there are several other websites which get approved along with you. As a result, your link shifts from the first page under the relevant directory category to the second page and so on. Importance of directory submissions in SEO could be justified by saying that SEO directory submissions help in theming your website. Subjected to Google’s love for the directory ofcourse.
Cheap Directory Submissions – The Ugly Truth!
When browsing through internet, you can see that there are several so called Cheap SEO submission firms out there. If you have subscribed to any such Directory submission packages from those SEO submission sites, its about time that you review the reports that you receive throughly. Why? because you will be shocked to notice that half the directories out there do not accept the right anchor texts which means zilch in terms of theming and backlink relevance.
Also, there is another dirty card that most Directory submission firms pull out on you — fast approval directories. These are the directories which are unmoderated and all the links are automatically accepted without any screening. In other words, you will find such directory websites infested with several gambling, pharmacy and other adult themed outbound links. Now imagine your website’s link on such 60 fast approval directory sites?

Understanding The Importance Of Article Submissions
Google loves contextual links. With Article submission and creation, you are not only earning a readership bait but also a contextual link. The quality of article and its wavelength with the related traffic plays a very important role in article submissions. To explain this better, I would again like to highlight the role of Link traffic in backlink weightage. Google has started preferring links on pages and websites which have good audience retainership and incoming traffic rate. Article submissions along with Press release submission holds good merit for SEO only if done wisely and not cheaply!
How Low Quality Article Submissions KILL your SEO efforts!
Again, while reviewing a few article submission reports from our clients who chose to switch SEO providers after being dissatisfied with quality and results, we found out  a similar pattern of erroneousness in the article submissions which other bulk article submission SEO companies follow – non-spun-content in articles. To explain better – the trick lies in not carrying out 500 article submissions. You could achieve the same results by carrying out 100 article submissions provided the content in these articles is spun and unique. By unique I do not mean creating 100 variants of articles, but changing them in such fashion that Google treats each article as reviews submitted by different sources. The links achieved by submission of such unique content across most trusted article websites like Ezinearticles and articlebase. Another issue, very similar to directory submissions is that these reports had several websites which do NOT accept any in-content links – which means no merit from the content submitted.
Are You Getting Best Bang For Your Buck Spent in SEO Submissions?
About time you ask your self that question – what are you paying for? Those voluminous, fancy submission reports or quality of the links that you achieve from these Article submissions and directory submission work? 250 submissions is certainly not 100 quality SEO submission and if you fail to realize the importance of quality SEO submissions over cheap SEO submission you are losing out a lot.

The trick lies in capitalizing on the factors where other’s are missing out on and knowing your market right. Search Engine Marketing is all about knowing your propagation media well and having your finger right on your target audience’s pulse. Make sure that you have made your choice of link building services wisely and its about time that you dump oldschool bulk submission work and focus on relevant backlink building.

Black Hat SEO/PPC Really Bad For Your Website?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
Overnight success on Search Engine Optimization are best demonstrated in those Fly-By-The-Night pharmacies on internet. If you have previously requested a quote for your website’s SEO, you would be knowing better that Internet Marketing Experts call SEO as a patient process.
It is frustrating for both the Service provider as well as buyer to bear the Search Engine’s Latency in digesting SEO efforts to propel websites on internet. For the ones who don’t like to wait, Black Hat SEO is the way!
So what kind of websites go ahead opting for Black Hat SEO? Mostly Online Pharmacy Affiliate Webstores, Lead Gen Websites from Mortgage & Loan realm use Black Hat SEO to go fly overnight and then end up getting their domains slapped. Switching on to another domain, cashing it out and then another one.
Google has been fighting the spam microsite issue that plagues its Search Engine Result Pages frequently. Whether Black Hat SEO is good or bad, depends on ones perspective and business needs. Black Hat realm has a few aspects which are detested globally.
For instance, some Black Hatters use SQL injection trick to place their links on high PR websites which would otherwise not allow links to these websites. (per Google’s Webmaster Guidelines). Its a coding issue which is inherent in Wordpress weblogs where ‘comment’s section’ is exploited and feasted upon by Black Hat SEO experts. To fight this, most of the blogs now allow ‘No Follow’ links only which restrict link juice to flow to these fly-by-night websites.
A live example of Black Hat SEO can be seen on the following Google’s Irish Search Engine Result Pages.
Personally, I have no hard feelings for BlackHat SEO or BlackHat PPC until it goes out of the way to hurt other’s websites or hampers web surfing experience. Safe Black Hat is an aspect which is now termed as Gray Hat SEO or Gray Hat PPC.

How 404 Pages Destroy Your Website’s SEO?

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Often when you are browsing through the websites you may encounter a very irritating error labeled as 404 Page. So what exactly are 404 Error Pages and how could an unoptimized 404 page bring down a very well planned SEO implementation on a website?

A 404 message is displayed when during a HTML protocol the browser sends packed of data to request a file from the server and then in return the server resonds by mentioning that the webpage or the file requested on the server was not found on the server.

A 404 brings hell to a website’s SEO. When a Search Engine spider crawls through your website, it crawls through all the available links on the website. Now, suppose if the link which is being crawled by the spider is broken or the webpage on the link is missing then the spider reaches the 404 error page.

A few ways through which the 404 pages can be encountered are as follows:

  1. Bookmarked Sites that have changed there links.
  2. Broken links that might exist in a website’s linking system.
  3.  URL typing error.
  4. A non-existant page which is still cached in the Search Engine Result Pages.

A typical 404 page looks something like this:-

As you can see this 404 page does not have any links to the website and as the spider crawls through this website, it abandons the website and ends up crawling it – as soon as it reaches a 404 page. Now the big question is that SO HOW CAN 404 PAGES BE OPTIMIZED FOR A WEBSITE’S SEO?
Experienced Intrernet Marketing Experts would know that 404 pages on a website should be optimized for Search Engines. A Search Engine Optimized 404 page would look something like this:-
Above is an example of a well optimized and planned 404 pages. In the websites which are running on a template based systems like Joomla, Wordpress etc such 404 pages are easy to be optimized.
How To Track Down 404 Pages Of Your Website?

Using Google Webmaster is one way how you may find all the 404 webpages that are indexed in Google and also exist in your website’s link system. All the broken link pages that might still exist in Google Cache can be dealt with by using an in-built feature in Google Webmaster that helps users to Remove Broken Links from the Google Cache.
This tool to remove the broken links from Google Cache can be found under the ‘Tools’ section of the Google Webmaster panel as an available option tab ‘Remove URLs’.
If you do not have Google Webmaster account you may simply login on Google Webmaster panel to start tracking your 404 pages. As I have already mentioned previously for a template based website there is no need to optimize these 404 pages seperately as there these pages can be optimized at the Template level and are implemented throughout the site.
Changing 404 Pages to Money Pages?
Changing gutters to glory ~ Along with adding a few sitelinks to the website, you may also place your adsense script on your website’s 404 pages. The otherwise nuinsance pages must be optimized to have the look similar to the website and then after that you must optimize your Ads provided by Google Ad Sense to have a similar look as the links that you have placed on your website. Having similar look for the Ad Sense as the other links on your webpages ensures that your revenue generation is maximized.
A few Tips to optimize your website’s 404 Pages:-
Consider the following if you want solid optimized 404 pages for your website.
  • Having a link to your website’s FAQ pages makes your 404 page have more authority as the Google Bot crawls through your page and discovers the link to your website’s FAQ page.
  • Having a link to your website’s Top Link categories – The Categories in your website’s navigation bar  ensures that the important sections of your website are crawled by the Google Bot.
  • It is strongly recommended to add a link of your website’s sitemap on your 404 pages if you are optimizing them.
  • A strong attention must be paid towards having the 404 pages to be cloaked and designed in order to ensure that your website’s d
    esign is similar.
  • It is highly recommended that you also put a Google Search Box to your website’s 404 pages.

A website’s On Page SEO and Off Page SEO has no improtance if your 404 pages are not optimized and templated for your website. I strongly recommend using the Google Gadget for enhancing the 404 pages that is availabe through the Google Webmaster panel to optimize your 404 pages.

Social Bookmarks And There Relevance In SEO?

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

There have been a few worrisome indications on the Google Radar Off late. Matt Cutts mentioned “slightly different weighting”of Social Media Links in a video broadcasted on Youtube and then there followed a huge discussion upon the fact that whether the Social Media Bookmarks will still hold there integrity? Would Google Still weigh the Social Media Bookmarks as important and relevant for judging the authority of a website?

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DesZCuTl-ZA]

Social Media Bookmarks were much welcome links for the Search Engine Optimizers due to there ease of availability. The back links to a website that are loved by Google in order of there Google-relevance are as follows:

  1. High PR One-way links. (Contextual and Hyperlinks)
  2. Reciprocal links.
  3. Social bookmarks.
  4. Internal Linking.

Internal linking is more of defendant on the site architecture. i have dealt with the same in detail in my previous blog about Siloing and Page Rank sculpting.

Social Bookmarks are essentially the links that are earned by the websites and blogs when the Audience chooses to share the content on Social Media Websites like Facebook , Newsvine , Digg etc.

Social Bookmarks and Brand Recognition

All the major websites and especially the news blogs look to build there brand recognition on the internet. The Brand Recognition of a website is exhibited by its popularity amongst the masses. On Internet, Social Media Websites are repositories for Haute Discussion threads. Where such content spreads virally. Having top class content aiming at such masses definitely increases your chances to get your self more Social Bookmarks.

Know Your Audience

When you are posting content on your website or your blog it is very necessary that you must know your audience. When your blog is about Automobiles you choose to discuss Paris Hilton and her latest fling, could actually be disastrous.

Commonly referred to as Sneezers and Linkerati, its all about making them happy. If you know what you are wiriting and for ‘WHO’ you are writing then you are definetely gonna spread virally over the internet.

Research The Content Well Before Posting It

It is advisable to start a spark a discussion on social websites and then do the necessary research before actually posting the content on your website. Having something solid, relevant and controversially prone is the key to milk more Social Media activity for your website.

Add Twitter To You Blog – NOW!

Its advisable to syndicate Twitter on your blog using services which automatically ping your blog to the Twittosphere. There are websites like Twitterfeed which ping the content posted on your blog to the Twittosphere at regular intervals which can be chosen by you. Getting more Tweets, definetely ‘ups’ your social media status.

Bling! Your Website with Rich Media

Having more share-able content on your website revs up your website. Youtube the mega video shack has changed the way people communicate. Add a video about the content you are putting on your website to Youtube and see the traffic to your website building up exceptionally well.

With a well of planned Internet Marketing strategy and unique content on your website you can definetely Kill It! Social Media Bookmarks for now are still an enigma, I am gonna wait till the next PR update to test the authenticity of these bookmarks and there effect on the website I am SEOing at the moment. Meanwhile, follow it the safe way, get more Contextual and Other one way links along with strengthning up your website’s Internal Linking to avoid the Google Fury from cracking up on your website.

Cheers ! :)
